Motorcycle owners from all around are hydro-dipping their bikes, and people are loving it! Also known as water transfer printing or hydrographics, this technique puts 2D patterns on 3D objects. People are opting for hydro-dipping coating for their motorcycle over paint or vinyl wraps – but why?
Benefits of hydrographics on motorcycles
A lot of bike owners invest in hydro-dipping parts of their motorcycle because of how it enhances the appearance, but what a lot of people don’t know is that it has way more benefits than that! This motorcycle coating adds a new look, but also adds a layer of protection to your bike. Hydrographics make parts of your motorcycle resistant to scratches, chemicals, ultra violet rays, and corrosion!
Hydro-dipping durability can stand up to boots, keys, and even the occasional topple. This protective motorcycle coating creates a barrier between your motorcycle and all that could possible scratch it. The durable ceramic clear coat on the exterior makes it almost impossible to scratch or damage.
The hydrographics on your motorcycle will even stand up to the accidental gas spill, overspray of the brake cleaner, or any other common chemical your bike could come in contact with. With the technique of water transfer printing, the hydrographics on your motorcycle won’t be damaged by chemicals.
Do you worry about leaving your bike outside in the parking lot of driveway? The intense rays of the sun can start to cause fading, cracking, and peeling – but not with hydrographics! This protective coating blocks the sun’s ultra violet rays from damaging the exterior of your bike.
Over time, rust can start to creep in and wreak havoc on your motorcycle. With hydrographics as your motorcycle coating, you can block out corrosion. This layer stops moisture from interacting with the metallic elements, resisting oxidation for thousands of hours.
How does it work?
If hydro-dipping is resistant to these elements, it must be complicated and expensive, right? Actually, it’s not! Water transfer printing requires a large vat of water, polyvinyl alcoholic film, and an activator solution spray. The film is placed flat on top of the surface of the water, sprayed with the activator, and then the object is dipped into the water. The film wraps around the object and adheres to it. The now-dipped object is then cleaned up, polished, and covered with a durable clear coat.
Hydrographics work on many surfaces, including glass, plastic, metal, and wood! This variety of surfaces makes it possible for you to apply hydrographics to several areas of your motorcycle, including:
- Gas tank
- Front and rear fenders
- Inner and outer fairings
- Wind deflectors
- Center console
Don’t forget about your gear, too! You can put hydrographics on your helmet and saddle bags!
Hydrographics can add some real style to your bike! If you’re looking for a way to make it custom and personalized to you, have it dipped in a pattern, design, or print that’s unique to you. Whether you’re covering your gas tank in giraffe spots or adding wood grain to the fenders – your motorcycle coating is sure to be one-of-a-kind!
